Chapters 7 & 8 "What Works"

You may select one from either chapter (due to time constraits only 1 is required). Hopefully you may continue to try additional suggestions in the future.

Chp. 7, 8, and 9

For these final chapters, try to combine some key ideas the author shared into a short summary that will help you remember these ideas. You may get creative and put it into the format of a poem, newspaper/t.v. ad, mneumonic device, or anything else...........then put a short explanation.

A. Write a question you would ask the author based on this chapter. Why are you asking this and what other thoughts do you have related to your question can you express?
B. Reflect on how this book has changed or challenged your teaching/thinking process, what you have noticed or seen any difference in student performance with trying strategies, etc.?

Directions--Chps. 1 & 2 Discussion

WHAT stood out to you as very important ideas as you read these first chapters? Please be selective and limit your response to about 300 words or less(no more than 3 paragraphs). NOTE: Blaming reading problems on elementary teachers doesn't solve the problem.

About the facilitator.......
Mary Beth is the group facilitator working as a ROE Schoolworks, Regional Office of Education consultant in School Improvement and Literacy. I have taught high school English, middle school Reading and Language Arts, and also have been an elementary school Reading Specialist. I have a husband, son, and two Shih Tzu dogs that keep me busy. I hope you will enjoy this book study and feel comfortable to share your ideas and questions. This is a learning experience for all of us!
